Profile

The Department of Indian and Northern affairs retained Rescan to develop a remediation plan for the Silver Bear Mines, located approximately 400km northwest of Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories, near the southeast corner of Great Bear Lake

Overview

The Silver Bear Mines are composed of four abandoned underground silver mines: Terra, Northrim, Norex / Graham Vein, and Smallwood. The objective of this project is to complete the studies required for the preparation of a remediation plan for the site and to prepare the remediation plan for submission to the Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board.

Experience

This project will consist of studies associated with determining remedial plans for the tailings, waste rock, and mine workings and to determine the feasibility of potential landfill locations and the source of borrow material.  The information collected in these studies and information from previous and current studies being conducted will be compiled into a remediation plan, which addresses all issues at the site.
