Rescan Selected as ABEX Environment Award Finalist

Rescan is honoured to be selected as a finalist for the 2009 Achievement for Business Excellence Award (ABEX Awards) in the category of Environment. Introduced in 1984 by the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce, the ABEX Awards honour outstanding achievements in business excellence. The awards highlight pivotal business elements of provincial prosperity and are the only business awards that honours all private sector enterprises in Saskatchewan regardless of size and economic activity. These awards have gained prominence as the most highly esteemed symbols of business excellence in Saskatchewan.
The Achievement for Business Excellence Award for Environment goes to a business that demonstrates excellence in the development of innovative programs, products and/or services offering improvement for environmental purposes. Improvements may relate to soil, air, water, noise or visual pollutants, or energy conservation. At Rescan, we are proud to have our hard work recognized and worthy of such an award. The winners will be announced at the ABEX Awards Ceremony Gala on October 24, 2009. For here for more information on the ABEX Awards.
Rescan Wins Fourth Annual Mining Community Blood Donor Challenge!
Canadian Blood Services, in partnership with AME BC, hosted the fourth annual Mining Industry Blood Donor Challenge in April. The Rescan team was honored to receive the award for "Most Units Donated" in the mining challenge for the fourth year in a row as well as achieving the "Highest Staff Participation Rate" at 30%! Rescan saved up to 108 lives last month! Runners up were Teck Cominco and AMEC.
Our local blood services clinics face many challenges. Currently, B.C. has the lowest percentage of donors in Canada; less than 3% of eligible donors in Vancouver donate blood. Rescan is registered as a Partner for Life with Canadian Blood Services. Through this program, Canadian Blood Services works with hundreds of corporations and community organizations nationwide, giving its participants the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to saving lives through donating blood, platelets and plasma.

Rescan Proud to be Named One of Canada’s Greenest Employers!
The team at Rescan is proud of their selection as one of Canada’s Greenest Employers! The annual list of Canada's Greenest Employers was announced by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers project, stating that "these organizations are more flexible, waste less and attract similar-minded employees and clients, making them more likely to succeed when resources become scarce."
| Rescan has developed and maintained sustainable environmental practices for the benefit of present and future generations since inception 28 years ago. Rescan is an international environmental consulting firm with science and engineering professionals working with clients to provide solutions for complex environmental issues. |
 |
Rescan was selected as one of Canada's Greenest Employers for 2009 because:
- Recently implemented a unique "Green Rebate Program" that provides a 25% reimbursement on qualified environmentally friendly purchases (to $250 each year), including energy efficient light bulbs, water barrels, native plant species, bicycles (and bicycle tune-ups), cloth diapers, and other related items.
- Purchased a Toyota Prius hybrid for employees to use (and test drive) and is providing employees with an employer-paid rebate, to supplement provincial and federal rebates, towards purchasing a hybrid vehicle.
- Operate an employee-led "Green Ideas Committee" to review and introduce green initiatives into the office environment (as well as business practices), including an energy-saving awareness campaign and a review of all products consumed at the office. As a result of the employee committee's work, the company now serves organic teas and Fair Trade-certified coffee and uses Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified paper in printers and copiers.
- Organize Earth Day and the annual Bike to Work Week initiatives for all employees.
The winning employers include both public and private sector organizations from almost every industry and region in Canada. The theme common to their selection is that each is a leader in its field in making environmental values central to their corporate cultures. A full list of their projects and the editors' detailed Reasons for Selection can be viewed at: http://www.CanadasTop100.com/environmental.
Rescan Named One of the Best Employers for New Canadians!
Rescan has been recognized as one of the employers with the best initiatives and programs to assist recent immigrants to Canada. Launched in 2007, the Best Employers for New Canadians competition is managed by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers in partnership with the The Maytree Foundation and the The J.W. McConnell Family Foundation; two foundations with long histories of strengthening Canadian communities. This special designation recognizes the nation's best employers for recent immigrants. These employers offer interesting programs to assist new Canadians in making the transition to a new workplace - and a new life in Canada.
| Some of the reasons Rescan Environmental Services Ltd. was selected as one of Best Employers for New Canadians in 2009 are because they: |
|
- Recruit internationally-trained scientists and engineers working with programs such as British Columbia's Engineering Matching and Placement program (E-MAP).
- Pair new employees with senior employees who provide guidance, mentoring, and other advice.
- Provide in-house coaching and professional writing skills training to new Canadians enrolled in ESL programs.
"[At Rescan], I was able to get an interview although my education is outside of Canada. And the interview was focused on skills and abilities, instead of just experience and credentials. The office atmosphere is very supportive of immigrants. Rescan also helped me improve my language skills through training and workshops. Rescan gives immigrants the chance to work in their fields."
